Temporarily rest is the basic runner’s knee treatment. Momentarily resting includes avoiding activities that usually cause extra stress on your knees such as squatting or kneeling because this causes extra pressure between your patella and your femur, or even high impact activities for example running until the pain subsides.

Avoid your leg being pressed; this is where you support your weight using a bent knee.  Straight leg lifts are safer, however when you get much stronger, then partial squats are ok.

Other Effective Runners Knee Treatment

Icing: when you apply ice on the knee, especially after performing some exercises, it may reduce pain and the chances of swelling. However, ensure that you do not ice for more than 20 minutes at a time in order to prevent frostbite. While icing, elevate the knee high above the level of your heart; as it may reduce inflammation.

NSAIDs: you may take non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Aspirin or Advil, as prescribed by your doctor.
